Every healthy life begins with safe and quality care during pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks of life. This World Health Day, observed on 7 April 2025, the focus is on maternal and newborn health—ensuring every woman and baby receives the care they need to survive and thrive.
Globally, preventable maternal and newborn deaths remain a critical challenge. Every 7 seconds, a mother or newborn is lost due to complications that could have been avoided with better healthcare access, education, and support.
As part of the Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures campaign, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners are advocating for stronger health systems that address both physical and mental health needs before, during, and after pregnancy. The campaign also highlights the importance of policy changes that protect the rights and well-being of women and families.
As a healthcare professional, your role is vital in improving maternal and newborn outcomes. Let’s work together to ensure every woman and baby receives the care they deserve.
