Remote Vocational Training Scheme
Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) is a national training program for doctors seeking General Practice Fellowship.
The RVTS delivers distance training and remote supervision to doctors in rural and remote Australia and Aboriginal Medical Services.
Doctors undertake the three or four year program while they continue to provide medical services to their community.
RVTS has two streams of trainees:
- The Remote Stream for doctors working in rural & remote Australia
- The AMS Stream, providing training for doctors working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
Eligibility criteria for each stream is as follows:
Remote Stream
- The location must be in Modified Monash Model MMM 4, 5, 6, or 7 (see the DoctorConnect Locator Map); AND
- The position must be providing continuing comprehensive whole-patient medical care to individuals, families and their communities.
AMS Stream
- The location must be an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service AND must be in Modified Monash Model MMM 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 (see the DoctorConnect Locator Map ); AND
- The position must be providing continuing comprehensive whole-patient medical care to individuals, families and their communities.
Doctors must have General, Provisional or Limited Registration for Area of Need with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
For doctors with limited registration:
- The doctor must have been granted limited registration on or after 30 January 2018; AND
- The doctor must have successfully completed Australia Medical Council part 1 exam on the AMC Standard Pathway; AND
- The doctor must be at Level 3 or 4 supervision. Levels 1 & 2 are not eligible.
- The doctor must be working in an eligible location at the time of applying, and remain in that location throughout their training;
- Applications are accepted from Australian citizens, permanent residents and temporary residents.
- Please note: RVTS does NOT provide a list of eligible locations. It is up to an applicant to determine suitability of their location. RVTS will determine the eligibility once an application is received.
