There are regular flights out of Adelaide to get you to and from this location. It is a very unusual town in that to avoid the heat much of it has been built underground. Visit underground houses, cafés and churches, and stay in underground hotels. Admire the lunar-like landscape, which has been the backdrop for many movies, including Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Red Planet. This town is also known as the Opal Capital of the World, and there are plenty of opportunities to purchase the pretty gemstones – or even find your own. There are lots of things to do in this town like fossicking for gemstones, explore the painted desert or visit the stunning conservation park. There is even a golf course with no grass which has reciprocal rights with St Andrews.
